Natural Cleaners

I haven't had much time this week to get everything done that I've wanted to but I have been able to do quite a bit. I've been reading flylady about house cleaning. With three kids home all day for homeschooling, I find I'm constantly picking things up behind them. They are really independent kids and very helpful but things just get messy. Like my kitchen. It never seems to stay clean.

I've decided to make a household manual that will keep everything in one place. Pantry inventory, my bread and bagel recipes, menu planning, contact numbers, calendars, anything else I use on a daily basis. I need to think a little more on what that will be because I tried it before and it didn't work. I'm not sure why but think it was because I wasn't organized in my house like I am now. My bedroom and office/classroom has been clean since I put the bookshelves in and that's a really good feeling.

I was online last night and found somemore really cool recipes for household cleaners. I've decided because the chemicals are so bad for my family and the items are so expensive, that I will no longer buy chemical cleaners. I have a lot so once they are used up that will be it.

I also will not be buying any paper towels because they are so wasteful. I'm working on making cloth napkins instead of using paper and I also found a site for making dryer sheets. I was shocked at the toxic chemicals that are released when these are used.

My goal for today is to swing by Walmart and buy some natural cleaning products and spray bottles and containers. I need to try all of these things before I commit to them. But if they work-they have the potential of dropping my shopping bill even more drastically and that I am very much looking forward to. I'll post some recipes later and let everyone know how they work.

We have done away with chemicals to clean too.
Manuals never work for me either, but I try every once in a while.;-)
I tried bagels yesterday...mine di not look as good as yours, but DH and P said they tasted ok, so I'm going to keep trying.
Thanks for the recipe!

Hi! I'm enjoying your blog. We share some common goals. :)

Kate-try a little more pam spray on the tray before you bake the bagels. It helps them brown up. Don't worry about the shape of the bagels-they could be square and the kids would eat them.

Crunchy Mom-thanks so much. I think there are many striving for a simpler life and wanting their families to be surrounded by safe and good things. It's taught the kids so much (and me too!)

I don't know if Wal-Mart carries them, but I really like the Seventh Generation cleaners. They're all terrific. Method brand products are bio-degradable, and Target and Lowe's both carry them. I also like the Sal's Suds variety of Dr. Bronner's castille soap. It smells like pine, goes a long way, and makes a really good paste with baking soda. This is a good topic!

Awesome-thanks so much. I have heard of 7th generation but not the others. I think Target carries it too. I'm going to the Back to Basics store tonight for my essential oils. I'm really going to try to make all my own cleaners.
